I was asked as a favor to shoot a friend's wedding shower in a few weeks at local vineyard. I believe they are having it in the main tasting room which has pretty tall vaulted ceilings and/or the outdoor patio area. Picstures can be seen here: Property Gallery @ Paradise Springs Winery of Clifton, Virginia (VA)

How would you guys go about lighting the tasting room? Looks like it gets pretty good sun exposure, it will be held at noon, but I don't think i'll have a chance to scope it out before the event.

Thanks, bros & bras.

If it were me? It would be done incorrectly.

I'm curious to see what others come up with though. What gear do you have at your disposal?

Well, I guess using my cell phone camera is out. LOL! Sorry.

It looks like a nice venue. If I were by myself, I would use ambient light with a little help from a shoe mount flash. If I had a couple of voice activated light stands, I would try off-camera flash with one or two speedlites in ETTL mode.

WTF is a wedding shower ? Are they going to spray them with wine

Nope! They are going to feed the bride fatty foods and shower her with (hopefully) useful gifts. But, wine will possibly be involved.

Think "Bridal Shower", only now the "modern" thing is to include the groom. :rolleyes-90:

Never heard of these showers

Might be nice to post up two off camera flashes, one in each corner. And a third on camera (or, better, on a flash bracket or in your hand). Either that or just one in camera flash bounced hard. You'd be surprised how well you can do with vaulted ceilings. Although, my biggest worry with bouncing flash in there is the color of the ceiling might give you some WB issues.

lol. i meant bridal shower. I dunno these things.

I have what's in my sig plus (2) 150w monolights.

If you have light pouring in through a glass wall, the monolights set up on the wall opposite the glass would provide good fill and keep you from making silhouettes when shooting toward the glass wall?

ahhh .. okay.
I envisioned a light stand that would flash upon voices. ie .. it would continually flash from people chatting lol
I couldn't figure out what purpose that would fill
