Versatile lens

Right now I use a Canon Rebel XSI with the kit lens (18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS)
I have been searching lately for a decent all around great lens that has a better focal length that would allow me to get in tight on things that are relatively far, as well as things that are pretty close up. I figured a medium tele would do the trick. I found this cool little 135mm with soft focus for pretty cheap, and it has great reviews already. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this lens... I am going to the store today to check it out. I don't own any telephotos, so I am unsure about the versatility of this lens.
Also I take pictures of everything, so in the end I should expect to have a nice variety of lenses.
