Sorry if this is in the wrong spot, didn't know where to put it.

Going to use my Rebel T1i to record my GF's sister's wedding, with a 16GB card.

It will only let me record a max of a 4GB files or around 30mins. The ceremony is going to be about 30mins but don't want to cut it too close.

I know that the limitation is not the camera but the in the file system used, which is FAT32 and the max size allowed by FAT32 is 4GB.

Camera won't recognize NTFS or extFAT formatted card.

Does anyone know away around this? Will using a card larger than 16GB help out at all?

Thanks Guys.

Actually the limitation is also in the camera itself - part of the licence agreement between Canon and the owners of the codec that the video is encoded in. Even the upper level bodies have limitations imposed upon the time that they can record for (this is of course a non-issue for their pro video camera lines, but is a limit for their DSLRs).

The best advice I can give is that if you watch most videos there are very very few cases where something is continuously filmed for as long a period as 30mins. Most will be comprised of different angles, views, sections etc... edited and presented together.

If you've some video editing software you could make up a composite recording based upon linking together the key events, each one recorded in its own min-slot (there should be some pauses in the service as people move to and fro for your to stop and restart the recording - practice at the rehearsals would be well advised, and if there is a big rehearsal it might even provide a few short parts to be put into the final works. )

Thank you very much for your response.

I was also thinking about breaking it up as well, I was just hoping I could just set it on and let it record and not have to touch it lol, lazy me...

You are right though, there will be some breaks where I can stop it and then start it up again, and then just edit them together. There will only be one angle, mine lol. Small wedding.

Again, thanks!

How about getting more than one card?

The card is plenty big, its just an issue of the file system used between the camera and the card that only allows for the saving of files in general in a max of 4GB a file. Never really an issue cause when are pictures 4GB lol Its just the limitation of the FAT32 file system used by the card and camera.

Do a test run an watch for heat. I know some of the APS-C sensors can over heat because of the size of the sensor and what appears to be the lack of ventilation caused by a smaller housing. The camera will stop recording until the temp comes down to prevent damage, but that means possible down time without the ability to record.

Besides, you don't want the first time using the video function to be at your sister's wedding.
