Actually no -- that's an identifying characteristic of this variety, it produces flowers of both colors together. A colloquial name sometimes used for Lonicera japonica is Gold & Silver Honeysuckle.

Not the variety pictured above, but the related bush honeysuckle (Asian invasive import) is serious enough that MO actually ran a highway billboard campaign a few years ago:

Here's a photo I took that shows the beginning of an infestation in a native MO forest. This is in a State Park where the DNR is actively fighting the stuff. I've seen way too many acres completely taken over.

I took the photo in November when all the other trees and plants have lost their leaves, but not the bush honeysuckle. It will eventually drop it's leaves but not even for 120 days and then it's the first to leaf out in the Spring when this same view repeats itself. Even growing as an understory in a forest bush honeysuckle will eventually take over and kill off every other competitor until it becomes a mono-culture. It's allelopathic and releases chemicals that suppress the growth of other plants. And if you go after this stuff with a saw all you do is piss it off.

We did it to ourselves. We took it out of it's natural ecosystem in Asia, brought it here and turned it lose.
