Vivitar 285 ?

Someone gave me a 285. I don't know if it's new or old Internet search just says the old ones aren't safe. Is there a way to tell? It has the pc sync cable do the older ones have this?

They ALL came with a PC synch cable....a 7 incher as I recall. If it says 285 HV, it oughtta' be safe.

It's not an hv. I am going to put it on test meter and check voltage. I am disappointed as I have a 383 with optical slave I was going to use the 285 as my hot shoe. Any way to remote trigger the 285? If it's 350v?
