Old school film but applies to general lenses.
If I put it in full auto regardless of my aperture it wants higher shutter speeds. Like 1000th of a second indoors. Outside it wants to go in auto-aperture mode. My nikon fg recommends shutter speeds based on what its light sensor sees.
The aperture is working I can see it change size.
Is this because the lens is physically larger (62mm diameter) and can collect more light?
