50mm 1.8 hands down for portraits. Although for your group shots
the 35mm will come in handy but that's just secondary priority i think.

edit: matching this in with your D90 right?

Well definitely the 50mm f/1.8 for portraits. It allows you to get some reasonably close shots with great depth of field.

Well I put it up cause I cant make up my mind! I have gotten to play with both and like both lenses but uuuuummm NEED Alot of stuff and cant afford to buy everything ! So just thought I would put up the POLL!!! Thanks All

A little different point of view here:

Neither. If you are having to ask us then you aren't ready yet. You know your setup, gear and the limitations of where you will be shooting and the style of images you are wanting to produce. We don't. This is a decision that needs to be made by you on what you will be doing, where you will be shooting, the limitations of that (those) locations, and the style of portraits you are wanting to take.

If you do understand those things, then the decision should be obvious.
