Pretty nice for a black and white

i like the layout of the frame. actually i LOVE the layout of the frame it is near genius in framing. the land on both sides opposing eachother and the boat and bench opposing eachother. what i dont like is the writing on the bench, the muddyness of the processing and i cant really see anything in this you brought out by making it a black and white so i wonder if even a little color here would go a long way. two cents probably worth one

You might need to run it thru your HAL 9000 and brighten and/or adjust contrast; at least on here it seems rather dark gray and I agree the detail isn't showing up well.

It was really that kind of dark, dark cold and Maine. Plus this was near dusk so it was dark all around. I can try the color version or a midtone adjust.

The revision is more pleasant to look at, but it does not give me the same feeling as the waiting/gloomy/subdued as in the first one.

Yes.

Looking at the original and the edit, I think what's needed here is selective adjustments. Leave the clouds alone, but brighten up the sky a bit; leave the farshore alone, but brighten up the bench and surrounding area.
