Yes, I like it. Be rather simple to bring the two elements closer together to see if that helps. Not certain it will, however, as here I feel that the distance of the city from the founders' gravestones is part of the story...

Really like this shot, the fog or w/e is awesome. I was thinking of the song "we built this city one rock n roll" when I saw the title .

I appreciate the comments and suggestions... As for removing some of the blackness, I am kind of agree with Bend The Light. The darkness, to me, signifies "time", "how far we have come", and from a life/death perspective, "the unknown".
