A dust particle still seems the best explanation. Did anyone try to make these "orbs" deliberately?

as i said, I now know how to make them on my glasses ... maybe I'll try if it works with my lenses as well

It's been a long time since I've visited any links but yes, several people have investigated the claims and duplicated the photos. I'm pretty sure a Google search with key words like "orbs" and "debunking" or "explained" will yield more than a few examples.
