Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
I generally avoid HDR, but I wanted to give it an attempt because I plan on needing it some on my trip to Maui in June. My trip last summer to the Big Island had some very tricky lighting situations. On vacation you can't always be at a location during ideal times of the day.

Anyways, here's my attempt. Still very new at it, so go easy on me.

Without seeing a single 'correct' image, it's hard to tell.

But #3 did turn out quite well.

These photos nicely demonstrate that when shooting directly into the sun (or any other bright light source) additional exposures are necessary to capture the entire dynamic range. You got the sun, but the shadows are lost.

I like #4 the best...I do know it is always tricky to shoot into the sun, but you have given it a good try with good results.

Yeah, there are some shadows in there, but that is good. zero shadows = flat image typically.

Exactly

I think there's detail in the strip of land (is that an airport?) that should have been recoverable.

In three out of the four images you can see every detail in the land and the building (lifeguard HQ). Only in one is it slightly dark but I don't feel it's that important anyways, especially taking the composition into account. I was focusing on the sun and it's reflection as well as the bridge.

I'm thinking it may just be a monitor calibrating issue on your end causing them to look darker.

Thanks everyone for the input!
