What are you cooking for Thanksgiving

Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, fresh green beans, cranberry sauce and my favorite beverage, Ovaltine. I don't like turkey, all my family's gone and I turned 2 invites down because I don't like large gatherings of rowdy people. I am going to visit a tenant and have a piece of pie, but I'll be happy to get back home. It looks like it will be a good day. :D

My husband is a vegetarian so he eats that "yummy" tofurky or some other concoction....he's a chef and has to work today anyway. I have in the past prepared a big turkey dinner for myself, but this year, since I really hate to cook in general, I'll be having Oscar Mayer Carving Board turkey with Pepridge Farm Herb stuffing, Bob Evans mashed taters, Resiers cole slaw, and turkey gravy complements of Campbells. lol :-) No muss no fuss dinner, aside from making the stuffing and heating it and the turkey in the oven for a few minutes and taters in the micorwave. I will miss that delicious smell a roast turkey brings to an entire house though.

We're heading to my brother's in a few hours so they are doing most of the cooking. He's making turkey with all the trimmings and prime rib for 20. He used to be a chef and everything he makes is always delicious. My daughter and I made a Boston Cream Cake (for those unfamiliar it's yellow cake filled with either custard or cream and covered in chocolate ganache). Also made a batch of my world famous (our world anyway) chocolate chip cookies for the kids (yes for the kids, that's my story and I'm sticking to it).

I tried that Tofuky thing one year. Not terrible but also not to my liking. Enjoy your 'catered' meal! :)

My husband tried to convert me many years ago, said you just have to develop a taste for vegetarian dishes.....yeah, so long as you don;t starve trying! :-) I tried the tofu hot dogs and it was like eating modeling clay! I'll stick to the real thing.

One of the reasons I stopped eating meat was because I didn't like it that much. I did rely on some of those faux meat products for a little while, but by the time they were available, I'd already been a vegetarian for many years so I wasn't comparing them to real meat - just judging on their own merits - and I liked them well enough. After a while, I stopped eating them, though, because it meant I was eating too much soy and it was starting to mess with me (it can affect hormonal balances and thyroid function). I was also moving away from processed food. These days I eat a lot more non-soy plant-based protein.

Being an 11th generation decedent of Peter Browne an original Pilgrim, we have a traditional Thanksgiving feast of turkey, potatoes, beans, cranberries and seafood.

I'm not a cook so we're at my partner's sister's and he's doing the turkey/dressing/gravy and stuff. Unfortunately, I forgot to suggest sweet potatoes so we are without such a delicacy this year. :(

The turkey smells amazing, though.

Today is for the immediate family - my lovely wife, my two fine sons and myself. We are having lobster pot pie, pot-cooked roast, fried (homemade) paneer (Asian farmer's cheese), homemade cranberry sauce, a mushroom dish of some kind (the older son is making it) and creme brulee for dessert.

Saturday we'll have the traditional turkey, etc. at my mother in law's. My sister in law (lives with mom) is working two double shifts tonight & tomorrow so we're delaying their celebration.

Tomorrow will be at the in-law's, when everyone will be in town. I've been told to stand down from bringing anything this year. Today is for myself and hubby: a small turkey, stir-fried fresh green beans, roasted new potatoes with rosemary and sage, and last night I baked a fresh apple pie for dessert. All will be consumed with a jamming little bottle of red wine - which said hubby has yet to decide on.

Happy Thanksgiving, all! :)

I'm on a protein-grabbing bender after last surgery. I figured steak was the best and quickest way! Day before, 12oz rib-eye, medium rare, at Chili's. It was simply delicious!!!

Just an update. The New York Style Crumb Cake. Well it stayed home, what was left this morning. Got up at 5 started the Parker House Rolls. It's a 3 hour project. But the results are worth the fuss. Made 32 rolls and they were devoured, like Piranhas feeding. The fresh whole cranberry and walnut relish was also a hit. Thankful for the day. My neighbor and great guy died at noon yesterday. He was just 50. So it reminded me of how fragile life is. As I said, I'm thankful for the day. Later Ed
