Hi Photo Forum!

My girlfriend has recently taken an interest in photography and has purchased a really nice digital SLR. The thing is, she hasn't ever really done any photography before and I'm a little woried, hopefully without sounded too patronising, that she won't getting the full use out of her camera.

So what I wanted to ask was are there any books you would recomment for the absolute beginner that covers basics such as composition and lighting as well as a few more advanced techniques? Preferably something quite visual with demonstrations as apposed to a book of solid text.

Two that caught my eye were [ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/40-Digital-Photography-Techniques-3rd/dp/8931433697/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1227439457&sr=8-8"]40 Digital Photography Techniques[/ame] and [ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/How-Photograph-Absolutely-Everything-Successful/dp/1405319852/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1227439457&sr=8-16"]How to Photograph Absolutely Everything[/ame].

Thanks for your help!

Understanding Exposure is a good book, aswell as mayhbe they publish a book specifically for it eg. i have a Nikon D40 and i found a book at my local book store on how to use every part of the camera. It's like a manual that should have came with the camera.
Good Luck.
