What do I do with too much blue?

I tried to take this shot twice, and just couldn't. It took me about 2 min to get the settings right so I could take the shot and have all the detail show up. By that time the sun had passed and I couldn't find another similar shot. So with not being able to retake it, there were a few things I wanted to do with it, and I just don't know how. I wanted to down't play the blue, make the trees greener and the snow whiter, but my GimpFu is not so good. Even if you were to do it in another program, how would you do it in that program?

Making an adjustment using the Tint slider would be one way. Another way would be adjusting the whites in selective color. In some apps, it might be possible to adjust the Highlights, and make them less blue. HOw and where the adjustment is made would depend greatly on WHICH exact app was in use.

If your app has a "Levels" adjustment, you might see a little eyedropper symbol, with maybe three eyedroppers, one black, one half-full, one empty, representing blacks/mid-tones/highlights....maybe click around and see if you can "click on the snow" with an eyedropper and correct it to white.

Heck...even an AUTO-COLOR setting might do the trick here.

Thankyou, I use Gimp, there was a Levels option with an eye dropper tool for white. This is what I got so far.

Much better, much whiter snow coloration. I think you've lost a bit of detail in the snow in the upper right corner, and overall the exposure looks a wee bit too "bright" for the sun being so low, but the whiteness of the snow looks great! Of there's a brightness, or an "exposure" slider, I would use that to slightly darken things. The whole scene, the picture, is actually pretty good. Love the fire!

The curves tool is one of the MOST-useful tools in an editing program. Adjusting the curves is a VERY fast, efficient, and powerful way to make a lot of important corrections. With most programs, you can click on the line, and make adjustments, like for example, that only affect say the bottom values ie the "darks". Or the brightest tones. If it well,well,well worth the time to watch a few videos to see how the curves can be manipulated.

Thank you again, I watched severalvideos on this. I'm still learning..........


Curves I noticed that the shadows section had no color until part way in, so I moved the bar in, this made the contrastlook less pronounced and trees a little more clear.


With the washed out snow, I just cheated, FreeSelect Tool, then messed with the Contrast -15 accept for the large right area I put at -25. Now if I really wanted it to match I could add more blue, Sample Pixel data tells my that the lower areas with snow that aren't washed out have some light blue in them, even after my first edit on it.





I'm actually at a point where I'm happy with the picture, thank you, I look forward to posting another picture later on.
