So, I received my new/old camera that I bought off ebay yesterday. YashicaMAT LM--everything except the lux meter seems to work right. Anyways, I was messing around with it, firing the shutter and winding the crank, when I heard a flapping noise from the inside. Upon futher investigation, turns out there was an old roll of film inside.

Question is, do I take it in and have it processed? It's color, otherwise I could do it myself. But do I have any business getting someone else's pictures developed? Part of me thinks I should just unroll the film and throw it away. Afterall, they're someone elses's captures, not mine.

If you bought the camera as is it should be yours. So my curiosity would say develop it.

If you can, contact the person you bought the camera from, and ask if they'd like the film returned. If they say no, or you have no way to contact them, then I'd throw the film away without developing it.

A) You don't really have the right to go prying into other peoples pictures without their consent (ok, they left the film in there, but it was probably by mistake... if I gave an old jacket to a charity shop, and left £500 in the pocket, I'd hope someone would return it... If I sold my old VCR, but forgot I'd left my son's christening video inside, I'd want it back)

and...

B) You never know what you're going to find on the film :D

It could be child pornography and you could get arrested... you never know.

I agree with what j_mcquillen said, I wouldn't want someone to have my roll of film and develop it.

I contacted the seller, he didn't want the film back. Oooh, I hate ethical dilemmas. And, of course, this type of situation was never covered by Kant or any other philosopher to my knowledge...

:lmao:

There's a guy who goes around purchasing old cameras which have film in them. He has a gallery of old time photos taken when those cameras were used.

So, if you have ethical problems developing it yourself, then send the film to him.

You never know what you're going to find on the film :D

Yeah, you just might find out who shot kennedy or something. :p:wink:

You a photographer now. You have no ethics. Just Kidding, their just in the gray area now.

dude, if the guy says he doesn't want the film back, then get it developed. I dont mean to sound like an a-hole, but the curiosity is killing me!!! i wanna know what it has on it!

:pme too. Its sitting in the fridge 'till i have a second to take it in.

Knowing my luck the roll will be completely fogged with no images. But I'll post 'em if anything turns out.
