I've been reading on elements of photography and took this shot

I think this shot has a few elements in it
Texture, color, contrast,space,motion

I took into consideration
Subject
Composition
Technique
Light

Some how I feel like something is missing?
Is there too much negative space in the sky?

Please let me know what you all think... Good and Bad

I agree... too much needless sky. As well as foreground. The rock with the splashing water is the subject, so they should fill the frame much much more.

You might want to lower your ISO more and shoot with a longer shutter speed.

I think its looks nice but I think it would look better if you shot it in landscape orientation

Landscape a good route here
unless you really like the sky. The image is a very tall one. Cropping part of the bottom and some top off will make it look better and a few other exposure tweaks.

Good: timing, focus, exposure

Bad: The ocean and sky are dominant elements in this landscape shot. In spite of your selected subject being not particularly horizontal, the ocean and beach actually are mostly horizontal. If you had shot this in horizontal format ( and really try to get as much horizontal line in the shot as possible) then your central subject would stand out more. It would be more the element that is out of the norm, and therefore much more interesting. This is probably where you would not necessarily center the main subject, but it all depends on if there is something to balance the shot. Maybe the tide pool, since it is also a dark element. Also, probably too much sky, but since we don't have the most ideal crop here, it is difficult to say how much sky is too much.

480sparky in this shot Exposure was the main intention. i was timing the splash to be just right...
To short and no splash...to long and it was too blury and lost its impact..

I agree with Mike on the landscape mode.... or even a square crop with water horizon dead middle.

I tend to agree with the genral idea that the original shot was from too far away, and had too much sky. Designer's reply, post #7 pretty much says it all, and 480sparky and astroNikon in posts 4 and 6 also have good comments.

One issue on seeking C&C online: small images like this are often hard to appreciate...and some subject matter almot demands a fairly large image to be seen and appreciated. This post's image sizes are small, and the scene is the exct kind that demands a bigger image, for the idea to rewally punch through.

I think your crop in post 8 needs to be wider, the image made more wide-aspect. Looks too stodgy, too square-isa.

yeah that as wide as i can go...guess this one is a goner...no salvation...lol..oh well..ill be back at that spot to go for the landscape option like all of you suggested...hopefully ill catch the right tide and also waves to get that shot back and see if i do better next time...Thanks guys once again for the input.
