Well, here's a blast from the past.

If anybody today (as in this decade) is still interested I suggest you find and frequent an indie coffee shop. *bucks is nice and all but an indie cafe not only gets you around more interesting people (quantity and level) it is also a LOT more likely to allow you to hold impromptu (not formal) gallery showings.

Depending on the size of your city you might even make the paper to the benefit of all.
