What do you think about traveling with expensive gear?

This is the same problem I've got,I'm going to Thailand next week and i'll be doing everything from white water rafting to snorkeling. Worried if i'll damage my camera and lenses or someone steals it.
Is there anyone who took their gear to Thailand and get back in one peace??

I meant put it in a garbage bag when your in the shower and tie it up to keep moisture out (so you can have it with you in the washroom). DO NOT leave it in a garbage bag in your room, you don't want a maid coming and throwing away your equipment!
