Over the past few years, I've had a number of TPF members who have PM'd me, many of them people I do not really know, and they have asked me, "What Nikon model do YOU want? What one would you really like to have?" ANd my answer has always been, "Well, you know the top Nikon model? I want the NEXT one...the one that they come out with AFTER THAT one!"
I dunno...cameras are so varied. I've owned a lot of camera types and models over the years. Big ones, small ones, chrome ones, black ones, rangefinder, viewfinder, TLR, SLR, view, phone, video, 8mm movie, Instamatic, manual focus, zone focus, autofocus, rangefinder focus...hmmmm... I think I would like multiple cameras actually. A few features though that I would like would be: LEAF shutter lens option for flash synch at speeds of say, up to 1/800, which is about as fast a leaf shutter as has been made. OR--an "electronic shutter" that allowed flash synch on single-pop flash at all speeds up to 1/8000 second, like say the older Canon and Nikon cameras allowed. Leaf shutters are very quiet and exceptionally low-vibration.
I would go with a waist-level viewing option, so a flip screen would be sufficient for that check-mark. I'd like it to also have a magnified, enclosed eyepiece option, for use in bright sun, like at the beach. Firing rate? 20 frames per second. IN-body stabilizing system. Multiple exposure capability. Built-in WiFi and GPS and pizza-ordering link programmable to Domino's and Godfather's Pizza, with WiFi on-line coupon search and upload capabilities to save me money. No more manually entering coupon codes...no..none of that chit...I want my camera to scour the web for pizza coupon codes 24/7, so when I want that pizza, I get the $3.00 off coupon deal STAT,with zero effort on my part!
I'd want it modular...With a high-precision front module that could allow different lenses to be mounted...Nikon, Leica, m4/3 would be sufficient....needs lenses that have ON-lens diaphragm capabilities and MECHANICALLY-actuated diaphragms, so Canon EF is out, same with Sony. I'd want a SMALL body, with the capability of attaching a bigger, 2-battery grip with full controls. And I would want it to cost $1,200.
If I REALLY had my druthers, I would also want the camera to have MOVEMENTS as an option. Seriously, not kidding. Front rise, shift,swing, and front tilt would be totally sweeeeet! Maybe even a bit of back movement, but at the very least, front rise, and front tilt, and front swing would be exceptionally welcome features in a huge number of situations.
There are some intriguing possibilities, like maybe a medium-format digitial folding camera with bellows and interchangeable front lenses....THAT might be sweet! Small,light, foldable.
. Eye has supposedly 100 MP of resolution and slow, but noise free low light capabilities.
