What I have learned in 1 year

I started out taking self portraits with P&S. graduated to a DSLR. These are first attempt and what I have learned. Self portrait with a Fuji P&S.

#1, Too much empty space

#2, cut an arm off

#3, a little special effects goes a long way

#4, focus one the eyes

Know your camera and practice! Pay more attention to the little stuff. There are a lot more I have learned from this forum and through just practicing. I greatly appreciate the advice and reading advice you all give others! Yes, there people like me reading and viewing pictures to learn from others on here. Thank you!

I think the first has to much light. Takes away from the tan or natural skin tone. A little darker and it would rock. The color of the sofa does not work with that photo or maybe just to close up. I don't like the fog look but the color selection on the hat is cool. I love the last one. B&W works there except for to much shine on the left cheek.
