I have been looking at various online vendors for my next dslr. I am really leaning towards a Nikon D90. I found a place called Close Out Genius. They have some really good deals and lots of people have posted on the site that they have had positive experiences buying from them.

Well, I found that they offer Nikon packages, with lenses. Here is one for instance-
Close Out Genius

$559 w/ free shipping for a brand new D90, all accessories(charger, battery, cables, etc.), a 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF Nikkor Lens, and a bunch of various stuff as well(tripod, case, etc.)

Most other places have the body only for $889, and the 28-200mm Nikor lens runs approx. $300. What's the catch?

another pretty good give away is when you go to place the order they want you to buy a $400 CF card LOL.

Lol, we need a sticky thread with a link to reseller ratings, then we wouldn't have to deal with this daily.....actually we still would......

:lmao:
agreed.

I couple years ago, I wrote up a long post, outlining all of the details about those places and shopping on-line etc. Unfortunatly the forum crashed and we lost a few days worth of posts...mine included. I never got around to it again...

Maybe that is something I should do again.

would be good to have Mike - certainly it would be a good thing to link to so that newer people can get hte full story on things

great idea mike... but as Alex said.. we will still have to deal with people asking the question... even if it was a sticky

Yes, people tend to ignore stickies...they don't use the search feature as much as they should either. But at least if there is a sticky post, we can link to it rather than explain it over and over again.

but at least then we can link them to the right information - that is what stickies are for - not for being noticed but for being info that newer people can be shown (ok it might not be the intent but its how they work best ;))
and stickies are always a lot easier to find that that thread that appeard half a year ago in some section ;)

agreed.
Go with real camera stores and sites. Don't look for the cheapest thing. I got my Canon from B&H. shipping was a little long, but i did order it on christmas eve.

And need to make sure the forum database is backup right after you create the new sticky thread. :er: You never know.

These scam sites suck in hundreds, if not thousands of people. It doesn't help when the Google Ad's at the top of reputable forums like this one and POTN run ads and links to these scam sites. It gives them credibility when you see them here/there. Too bad there's no way to block certain ad's from Google Ad's.
