Is there one?

Mac has iPhoto... What does Windows have?

(This is a serious question. I need to know. )

I just Googled that and I found a microsoft article that says that was discontinued in 2003??

Well if your looking for free download a copy of the Gimp. They ported it to windows from linux, very powerful image editor. Me I'm more of a photoshop fan myself but I've used the Gimp on occasion, it actually has a lot of the same features.

Dude.

Do you even KNOW me?

I mean like... I thought we were *friends*.

FIRST of all... I'm a MAC user... and I use Photoshop and Lightroom like my life depends on them (because... well... it kind of does).

:biglaugh:

I'm not asking for me.

Also, while GIMP is wonderful, what I'm asking is what comes *pre-loaded* on Windows machines as their photo editing solution??

Like, iPhoto, which is a consumer-level editing and photo management software comes standard on Macs.

What, if anything, comes standard on Windows?

Short feisty girl who keeps kicking me places it's just not so nice to be kicked, right? See, of course I know you.. lol

And I've forgiven you for that. See, we are friends.. rotfl

Right, but my point was not that photoshop is available for the PC or that you were unfamiliar with it, simply that photoshop and the gimp have a lot of similar features.

Only thing windows comes with out of the box on some versions is a program called paint - which is just one tiny little step up from being almost useless.

Ahhhhhh paint.

I am familiar with paint.

Interesting.

I remember my Dell coming with something, but I didn't know if that was standard or just a Dell thing.

So what the hell do normal people non-photographer-types with Windows machines use to edit their photos??

Do they just all resort to getting Photoshop Elements? Or do they all migrate towards another program in particular?

If you relied on the windows pre-load, you'd think that photos cannot be edited.

Well a lot of options out there, not sure there really is a set standard or most commonly used choice persee.

Off-topic, Emily, since you're working for Apple, do we call you an Applonian? Appaloosa (sorry - I think that's a horse - no connection there!)? Jobbian? Definitely not Scullian. Hmmm?

Yes, yes, yes, no.

But we can replace that last one with Ivonian... or my personal favorite: Aluminium.

:biglaugh:

Irfanview can be downloaded and it's free. Install the plugins also. Free too. Takes about 3 minutes to download install and start editing.

I think Emily is looking for the software that Microsoft, in its wisdom, thinks people need to have in order to do photo editing. And it seems that the answer is if you want that function you'll have to go outside the Microsoft stable (non-microsoft software like Gimp, infranview, Adobe, Canon's DPP, etc.).

That is correct, and thank you for summarizing. :sillysmi:

My question has been answered.
