What is this mark on my friend's lens? Please Help!!

Hey Everyone, new to the forum here. I was hoping to ask if you guys could help me out. Do any of you know what causes this on a lens? A friend of mine is offering to sell me this Canon EF 28mm F1.8 for a great price but it has these 2 discolorations at the edge of the lens. Have any of you ever seen this before? It doesn't seem to affect the image quality but I'm afraid of the future of this lens. Any thoughts appreciated!

Please help I really have been wanting this lens, but I don't want to get burned.

I'd have to see the lens in person but I'm pretty sure, that they are just reflections!

+1 to what Formatted said. When I sold one of my lenses I had a devil of a time with reflections and making sure that they didn't mess up the shots. A simpler way is to take the shot using a lighttent with ambient lights not pointing into the open section so as to reduce the number of light sources that will get reflected and such.
