My favorite ridiculous camera ads are the Canon Digital Rebel ones....where they show some poor, average American NFL football fan, sitting in the $55 seats 80 yards up and away from the 30 yard line in an NFL stadium that seats 95,000 fans...he brings the Rebel to his eye...and even though it appears to be twilight time, and perhaps raining, he manages to get a sharp, clear, 300mm f/2.8-like sequence of a running back hurdling a linebacker, and carrying the football across the goal line....ALL SHOT WITH the 18-55 kit zoom lens!!!!

Who here has NOT seen this piece of Canon-sponsored corporate horse-hockey and not laughed their effin' arse off??? it is even more patently-ridiculous than Mr. Ashton Kutscher (former hubby of actress DoMe More) and his Nikon CoolPix girl-watcher snapping!!!

I haven't seen it!! But I also RARELY watch TV. Now I have to look for it! Off to YouTube~!

I'd kinda like to PLAY with a sigma camera. Their sensor technology intrigues me. The rest of their cameras are in the stone age, but that sensor looks like a flash of brilliance.

See I just think I should try one because over half my lenses ARE sigma brand!

This comparison makes me wonder about the noise factor at high ISO's...

This TV commercial is not the exact one I was referring to. The ENDING eight seconds or so however, are part of the advertisement I was referring to. The prior 22 seconds or so are from other ads. The specific advertisement I was referring to was shown during football games.

Did you see the loooong promo on the 60D? Their marketing dept definitely did their job making it seem simply AMAZING and capable of changing the world in a shot. Blech.

To be fair that rebel can take all of those shots - just not with a kit lens and an average seat and average person on the street shooting ;)

Yeah...I'm sure it'd do great in the rainstorm they show--when fitted with an Aqua-Tech camera rainjacket, like the one I own...and payed $249 for...

And the TV commercials fail to mention how this little $7,299 Canon EF 300mm f/2.8 L IS-USM lens would make the NFL night football shots possible...Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM Telephoto Lens 4411B002 B&H

The Official NFL logo at the end of the ads makes me chuckle...NFL football coverage and Canon Rebels...so cute!!!!

Ya' know, the OPTech Rainsleeve was NOT on the market when I bought the Aqua-tech raingear for pro d-slr + 300/400 2.8 lens set...and even thought the Rainsleeve looks like a couple of strecthed out condoms, for the PRICE it looks like a simply FABULOUS device. It really does!!! I'm suprised, and yet I'm not surprised...formerly the segment was dominated by the high-end raingear, then $50 fancy plastic bag-type things....the OpTech Rainsleeve actually looks like a FAIRLY-PRICED piece of kit in this modern world filled with outrageously high-priced stuff!!!

Aye - its not quite got the durability that some better sleeves can offer (I've ripped at least one accidentally when putting it on too fast) but for price and features its good enough for most light use. I think if one were hiking out in the rainforests or snowy blizzards then yes one of the higher end units would work better.

What I like it for though is that I can easily still see and control all the lens parts - esp on a zoom lens. Too many of the more durable covers are clearly limited to primes and autofocus only once the cover is fitted.

Yeah, the OpTech Rainsleeve is a great bargain, and real handy. I bought half a dozen of them and put them everywhere; the glove box, backpack, inside coat pocket, etc. Used them a couple times now, and they work just fine. Camera and lens were wearing one when this was shot:
