What kind of lens would I use?

Hey guys,
so I took this picture with my sd600 and was wondering what kind of lens i would use with a professional camera to get the effect (I suppose it's shallow DOF?) I tried to get for the picture with photoshop below:

I have a 50mm, would that suffice?

4. lens aperture.
