• 5 batt chargers (MacBook, Canon 50D, GF1, Olympus, rehcargeable AA-size batts)

Planning to bring the 600D + 15-85mm for my up coming trip to Sydney. Only have 2 batteries so was wondering if that is sufficient for a whole day walkabout? And if I am keen to capture some night shots of the Opera House, can this lens handle it? Or should I bring the 50mm f1.8?

Trying to minimise the gears to avoid aching shoulders/back.

When traveling? Everything except the monolights, umbrellas and backgrounds. This includes the laptop and an external drive.

Last major vacation I brought:

5D3, 24-70L, 50 1.4, Sigma 12-24. Plus chargers, laptop, etc. In retrospective, I would have traded the 50 and the 12-24 for my 70-200.

Eh it depends what "general trip" entails. I mean if its a day out with friends/family chances are I'll leave most of it behind and take a very light setup - maybe a 70-200mm f2.8 and another lens (18-55mm kit lens or something - though I tend to end up with my 35mm macro more often). That coupled with a single body and a 580EX2 flash.

But even then that's a pretty big setup for a none-photography day so I might even cut it down further; depends where we are going as well (if its out and around town for example, chances are I'll just leave it all behind).


If its my own trip it depends what I'm going to do - normally that will be either macro or wildlife focus (the latter I can take a light 70mm macro with me, but it depends how much weight and how I'm travelling).


"It depends" is sadly the only answer I can really give because it varies.
