What the heck is with dead batteries?

Those batteries (most NiMH) won't hold a full charge for more than a couple of days and always charging them in 15 minute cycles will cut their life by about 75%.

As noted, "most". The latest NiMH batteries are really great at holding their charge, and have the same benefit of extremely low resistance for fast recycle times. I use them in my flashes, and leave them there. Haven't had a problem yet.

Agreed. The Eneloops I'm using are real good at holding their charge.

Buy Eneloops. They are rechargables that last forever.

I will +3 on the Eneloops. I find my others need charging everytime if they sit around not being used.
