I'm in the UK and I am looking for a tripod around the £30-40 mark and I would like to know which one is very good? Want one with a spirit level on and capable of putting in a bag or rucksack etc please? Many thanks.

Agree with Keith - you're either going to need to dramatically increase your budget or buy used (more likely both). Look for used Velbon and Sunpak models; they're decent (For "Very good" you're going to be into the £300+ range) and used can be had quite inexpensively. Before you run out and buy a cheapy though, think about this: The tripod is the piece of gear that you're going to rely on to support your VERY expensive cameras and lenses. Do you really want to save money on it? Buy cheap clothes and eat Ramen noodles for a month to save money. DON'T buy a cheap tripod!

Hi Aura - i'm afraid these posts are all too true..... Under about £100 they're pretty much the same.... Good budget 'pods are Sunpak and Velbon (lower range models). The used market (boot sales, etc) can be the very best place to get a *quality* tripod on the cheap. Look for Bogen or Manfrotto if you go that route.

Have seen this one, is this a good one please?

Buy Manfrotto MKC3-H01 Compact Tripod at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for Tripods.r this one?

Buy Camlink TP2500 Tripod at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for Tripods.any thanks for looking :)

Hi AuraTodd -

Honestly, i'd shop the used market before i bought either of these. Sorry.

If i *had* to choose one i'd go with the Camlink b/c it advertises a higher "strength" rating (not that these ratings are certified by anyone.....maybe just a bit of hype).

Cameras and lenses are expensive. The question i ask myself is, 'how much plastic do i need to feel my camera is secure?'. The answer is too much - i want metal!!! A metal (aluminium/magnesium) head will certainly be strong enough to give a good measure of security.

The used market (and some shopping time) is your friend!!!

Where can I find the used market please?

You could check _ Bay for starters. Sorry, i'm not from the UK though i see references to boot sales, etc on another website i visit far more frequently than here....
