What type of filter? - Sony F-707

When using a polarizing filter with the F707 (58mm lens thread), should I use a Circular polarizer or can I save a few bucks by going with a linear polarizer?

AFAIK, the 707 (aka 717, same lens) does NOT use any polarized mirror for its autofocus, so i assume it would be safe to use a linear polarizer.
