This is a 200% crop area from an experimental HDR monochrome shot I did today. I'm just learning camera technique, Magic Lantern, and PhotoShop CS5.5. The shot was not meant to be a work of art, just a 'scene' that could be clunked around.

Canon T3i on a tripod, 5 shots, the first @ 1/60, f:8, 55-250 kit lens, I think, manual focus, stabilization on, and put together with the PS "Merge To HDR Pro' function.

So, what am I seeing here? Is it camera shake? Mirror shake? Or is it a function of the software merging the pix?

OK. But isn't that something that the software is supposed to do?

When you shoot on a tripod, turn IS OFF. Because as soon as you depress the shutter, the camera tries to improve the image and jiggles the stabilization mechanism, creating blur. Some lenses apparently have the smarts programmed in to recognize when they are on a tripod, but most don't. Check the individual frames and see if there is any blur in them from this cause. If there is blur, the software will not be able to register the images.

OK, got it guys. Thanks to both of you, I know what to watch for now. No more trials for the next few days (long work days), but I will check things out more.
