"What's the best camera?" Subsection

Can a subsection be created to collect all the "I'm looking to buy a camera, what's the best one for me?" posts. Seems like every day someone wants to buy a camera and is bewildered by all the technogizmos and choices. If they were all collected into one subsection, noobs could be herded toward it and allowed to peacefully graze there on their own instead of searching the entire forum.

The thing is, would a noob actually search in the subsection, or just post a new post? Probably just make a new post.

We couldn't keep 'em from creating a new post, but if there's 10,000 similar posts already there............

But then we'd need a "What is the best lens" and "What is the best flash" and "what is the best editing software" and "what is the best microfibre cloth" etc...

I think we'd end up with a nightmare number of subsections and that would make some of our more established members very very cranky.... well more cranky than normal

. I understand the point, but at present we've several brand subsections and a general equipment subsection to cater to these questions - furthermore a fair few fit well into beginners as they span out into a more general beginner photography discussion rather than just equipment talk.

There is another photography forum/site that has been around a long time. I haven't posted anything there in quite a while...but they had it set up so that as you post a new thread/question, you had to 'click to confirm' that you have tried to find an answer via searching the site first.

It would be annoying...but we could certainly get some benefit from something like that on our site here.

A forum I used to belong to had a way to encourage using the search function. Instead of "Noob", or "Been Spending a lot of Time Here" for titles of posters, you would have the words, "promises to use the search function" under your name for the first 50 posts.
