Whats the difference in quality?

I received a couple of good helpful and insightful comments about the first pic on another forum.
What i want to know is the difference in quality between the two pictures. There is something in the first photograph that is missing from the second. The first photograph is what i believe more along the direction I want to be going with photography.
Please tell me your comparison of each regarding composition, feeling, and subject.
If i can name the difference then i can focus on it. Once you name something you own it, it just becomes a matter of practice to master it.

As a matter of perspective Henri Cartier Bresson is my inspiration with photography. His work is the level i aspire to reach someday.
No need to tell me how far I am from it either as I am well aware.
