What's new

What's your portrait lens??

On Nikon
28-105 for adults,
50 prime for newborns
17-55 when there's limit in space

Nice! Saving for this lens as we speak! Currently shooting with a 50D 28x135 and totally aggravated with some of the portraits.[/QUOTE]

I wouldn't spend the money on the Sigma or Canon f/1.4 yet. I think a Canon 50mm f/1.8 would be a great first fixed-focal length (prime) lens and it's quite good for portraits.

Yeah, I can imagine the 28-135mm isn't the greatest for the shallow depth of field usually wanted for portraits, but it's probably better on the long end.

Gotcha! Thanks so much for the advice!

Depends on the type of shot they customer wants. For head shots, i typically use my 80-200 2.8, or my 105mm 2.8 (weighs much less and is just as sharp), and for outdoor, more 'body-shot' style, i use the 50mm prime and move in or out accordingly.
