Interesting shot, because I know(or am led to believe) that it's a macro shot. Otherwise, my eyes were tricked into thinking that it looked like a non-macro shot of typical gravel.

With the assumptions that I have about the shot, I will agree with PixelRabbit that it looks like cat litter(or some other type of porous/absorbant rock).

I really liked this one, Ron. IMO, it would make for an interesting theme to take macro shots that look like non-macro shots of other subjects.
