Which "Creative Compact" for a 6 month trip?

Hi,

I've got a Sony DSC T1 which I love, but I bought it for mainly for nights out cos its so small. I'm going on a 6 month trip to Asia, Austrailia, New Zealand, Fiji and North America and want something that'll take higher quality photos.

As much as I love my camera, there's no comparison in quality to my mum's 35mm EOS500 and as I'm going to places I might never go to again I want something that will capture the moment with greater clarity and depth of colour than my current camera will.

I don't want to go down the DSLR road as I can't afford the additional costs of lenses so thought that a "creative compact" would be more suitable, not only as its cheaper, but because there's less things to carry while I'm travelling.

It has a spotmeter, which allows you to control your exposure. The lens is very good and pretty fast. If you want to go higher, then there are some contax, leica and yashica PS.

I would go with something canon... Maybe something like an A90...

Thanks for the replys, but I think the newbie's got the terms mixed up I was thinking about something like the Fuji S7000

Something a bit more advanced than a point and shoot, but not as expensive as a DSLR
