I've used both, but have a lot more experience with PCs. I'd find it hard to vote because there are so many models of PCs available, and they aren't all equal. Plus, there are also other OS, not just Windows. I will say though that I enjoyed the Mac I used during a graphic arts internship and I regularly drool over the Mac laptops

I have both. The PC is easier and cheaper to upgrade, windoz is as stable and easier to do more with than osx, and I agree about the mouse. I am lost without my 5 button. I have one laptop system with XP, it's a OK, as much a dolled up 2000pro as anything. My server has run 2000 server for 5 years without a hitch, only shut down to upgrade hardware. My desktop and show machine all run 2000 pro with no issues. The desk photo edit machine runs for months at a time. It is networked but that network has no internet access. Cathy and I each have windowz machines that are net only and are wifi neted. In total we run 6 win2000, 1 xp and 1 osx machines. The mac is now just for the public to see, just for show in my office. Each day that passes, I use it less.

Jaguar, Panther and Tiger are all UNIX based - Windows just can't compete, although it does try desperately hard to be just like the Mac OSX.
Check out Tiger's Widgets if you want desktop toys.
As for 'doing things' with the OS - if it's written properly in the first place you shouldn't need to have to 'do things'.
And Macintosh invented the mouse - they give you a 1 button to keep things simple. If you plug a 5 button in to a Mac it works (without having to load software).
Mac's are also far more resistant to viruses and redialer trojans. If one downloads the Mac just coughs it up onto the desktop for you to bin.
In more than 15 years of internet use I've had 1 virus - and that was a Word worm that had no effect on the Mac.
And if Windows and PC's are so wonderful why do they keep trying to look like Macs ;)

Like I said, style over substance. Windows knows if they can capture the style of a Mac with the versitility of a PC, it'll be unbeatable...

Once you go MAC you never go back.

I did. But then I have built PC's since the first 8088. I just feel locked in by the expense and lack of hardware available for the mac. We have a PVR I built, all pc. My P-shop machine is pc, and has a TV tuner, DVD/rw, and VCR all attached. It's just so simple to add, swap, move and change hardware. The current windoz is stable, and I have no compatibility problems with any hardware or software. As long as updates are current, virus, trojans or hackers have not been a problem.

PC's are great when you know how to use them properly.

Mac's just do everything for you, and cost more because of it.

If I had the cash I'd definatly invest in a MAC, but keep the PC.

Sure I have an iPod, but I got it for $45. There was no way I'd spend $350 for one...

But I bet all the people who sneer at Mac's still want an i-Pod - if they haven't got one already

No, don't have one, don't want one. It just doesn't do a thing for me. It's not that I sneer at Mac's, I just don't see the advantage of maintaining almost a dozen server, desktop and laptop machines in the Mac environment instead of the PC's. And in all honesty, I find the that Mac's are ugly, I don't want modern furniture when I buy/build a computer. I don't go for the neon, clear cased PC either.

iPods I think are a waste of money. You can get so many better mp3 plaers. I use a sony mini disc with a 1GB disk in. Sony have a special file format which means you can fit about 30 mp3 (192kbps) albums in a gb of space. I'm happy with it and the battery is one AA and it takes rechargables and lasts for 50 albums worth of listening maybe.

it's not big, in volume terms it probably is bigger than an iPod mini smaller than an iPod.

i bought one of the first macintosh's that came out. later bought a powermac. but when i would go to buy software and see the rows and rows available for windows and the mac stuff relegated to one or two sections i decided it was time to switch sides.

if apple would have made the mac os available to other manufacturers from the start - mac os probably would have dominanted windows.

I don't sneer at Mac's (just the people who keep banging on about them being so great, I hate zealots who sneer at other people for having different experiences and views to them ;)) so I guess I shouldn't really give my views on iPods.

They're a huge waste of money. They may look good, but are known to be unreliable, fragile and cost far more than other mp3 players which are just as good. Still, people are always drawn to things if they think the badge on the item makes them cool.

Baaaa.

I have used both. I was a graphic designer using Macs for 12 years. I still prefer PC's. Macs are great for computer illiterate people, being initially easier to use but in the long run rather stifling. I can do just about anything with my PC but alot of software is not available for the Macs.

As for stability, thats a joke. All the Macs I used crash several times a day. The term "your computer bombed" comes from Macs' little bomb icon (mac version of blue screen of death).

It comes down to what you want to do and what you like. This whole mac vs. PC war is silly and unoriginal. Heck, before macs and PC's it was Atari vs. Amiga.

If I had the money I'd have a G5 with final cut pro right next to my Alienware PC.
