I recently sold my Nikon 1 V2 and all the lenses of it because I needed a more professional lens. I went with the D7100 and have about $1500 to spend on a lens (or lenses) for it. I shoot high school football and I have an outdoor pet photography business. I have searched around extensively reading MANY reviews on a bunch of lenses and have narrowed it down to the Tamron 150-600mm and the Sigma 50-500 (aka Bigma). I am also considering both the Sigma and Tamron 70-200 f/2.8, the Nikon 80-200 f/2.8, the Sigma 150-500mm, and the Sigma 50-150 f/2.8. Most important to me is fast autofocus and sharp IQ. I am open to other lenses but would not be able to spend more than $1500

Im in the same situation..With what you have mentioned,a 70-200mm 2.8 would be the way to go.. Probably a Tamron would fit the bill..The sigma 50mm-150mm 2.8 would work as well. But if you plan to go to FX that lens would not work on FX..

I know that the max aperture of 2.8 would be good for the low light but last season with my Nikon 1 V2 I used the 30-110 (about 80-300 35mm equivalent) with a 4.5-6.3 max aperture and found the aperture/shutter speed/ ISO settings to work fine but I almost always needed more reach than the 300mm equivalent

Then the Tamron 150mm-600mm...

Yes I'm in between that and the Sigma 50-500. I'm mostly curious about the focus speeds and the IQ differences between them
