Yes, for indoor events on an APS-C d-slr, a 17-50mm f/2.8 lens, or something similar, would be a handy lens; constant f/stop through the entire range, only ONE lens to deal with, and the right range of focal lengths for the majority of indoor events. Nikon, Sigma, and Tamron all make 17-55,16-50, or 17-50 lenses.

Now that I see what type of shooting, never mind the super zooms and look into what Derrel said above. I Also agree with what MOREGONE said about single point focus.

For weddings you need a 17-50 f2.8 and a 70-200 f2.8 at least. Tamron makes nice versions of both. Used is not a bad way to go.

Now if you have some cash you can get this bad boy.
