Which P&S?

Im an amateur photographer wanting to make the jump into a nice P&S camera. I have a old konica film slr so i know the aspects of photographer. Im looking to spend 300ish on a decent camera. It will be used for school(majoring in multimedia) and my hobby of photography. This potential camera will be used to feel my need of digital before i take the jump on the D70. Im thinking about a Canon A520 but I want the input of others. Plz let me know what you shoot and what would be good.

My brother's got the model down from that, the A510 and it takes great photos. Has manual focus, good auto focus and you can set aprture and shutterspeed and ISO. You can even shoot in black and white on the camera. Its a really good P&S so I would imagine the next model up is even better.
