Which RAW setting should i use for Nikon D5100?

My Nikon D5100 has several RAW settings such as basic, normal, fine etc. which one is best and does it affect image quality ?
 
is that the RAW setting or the JPEG setting ?

i thought it was RAW
and/org
JPEG - basic normal fine (and in small medium large)

You're right. According to captain it's for JPEG.
 
Not to confuse things for you but some raw converters, depending how you have set them up, may render the raw file according to an embedded JPEG profile when you view the file. Check your editor settings and have a play around.

I downloaded Adobe DNG converter today and will play around with it and see how it works.

There's a basic, free editor that will open all raw, (and other image files), Google: Faststone Image Viewer.
 
How about use the Nikon view nx that came with the camera or as a free download from Nikon its a great for small edits to Raw and Jpeg and have a converter built in for Raw to other formats.

It comes with every digital camera Nikon makes. You can also download it from their website.
