White Barn Sunset

Went out for a drive tonight and came across this barn just as the sun was going down behind it. I'm generally pleased, but I'm noticing some odd color gradations in the clouds. Any suggestions? Is it just the result of Elements converting the image from 16-bit to 8-bit?

I think the clouds are too dark. Usually stormy clouds and visible sun come separately.

Sunsets come in a myriad of colors, so don't be concerned with that. Because you have the dark sky, consider carefully making the white barn white and maybe darkening the foreground just a little. It might improve the drama in a decent composition. And saturate that stream to mirror the color in the sky.

Also, I just noticed this... the tree on the right looks like it was brushed. There's a ring of brightness around it.

So here's the same scene from a slightly different angle. I also adjusted things different in post. Still getting that weird white "halo" around the tree on the right, though. Don't know what that's about, because it doesn't look that way when I'm editing it in PSE.....

I see it on the horizon too as around the tree and barn. Are you using the selection tool to select the sky separate from the foreground if so try to adjust the feathering slider under your refine edge button. If not disregard.

I think he should use the Highlight adjustment button to lessen that light...

I did not use the selection tool. I darkened via a layer mask (aka fake graduated nd filter

).
