I love these guys, they come down the trees upside down!
They are frequent visitors to the feeders and will take the seed to a nearby tree and tuck it into the bark, then they pound the bark until the seed breaks then get their prize. They are beyond cool :)

Great shot.
Composition is great, I don't even mind the two twigs on the left.

Thanks guys, Dxqcanada my first reaction was unsure about them because of where they stop, I almost want more of them because I think the room below him is important in the composition. As they are I think that their saving grace is they lead to his face :)

Yeah, you are correct.
They are pointers that lead the eye ... not that the eye will miss the main subject.

Hmmm... I'm getting the feeling that there's the PixelRabbit era prior to the 100-400, and then there's the new era...

Nice shot, as usual, Judi. However, I find it a little on the dark side. Composition is good, point-of-focus is spot-on, the twigs are fine, and your timing to catch that pose is also good. The only nit I can find is that it appears to need another stop of light (or processing). But that's me.

Thanks Paul :)

Other than the lens being yummy in general I think the biggest difference might be that I can actually REACH them now lol, I have a lot of these same shots that I took with the 18-200 and never shared them because they just lost too much detail. Thanks for your thoughts on the exposure, it was a bit darker to start so I'll see if it will take being brightened up a little more.

Ok Paul, I brightened it up a smidge and I think you were on the right track, I didn't want to brighten him toooo much since they are most often in the shade of the trees so I wanted to try to get a bit of that feeling into the shot.
I think I lost a bit of the mids in the bird but I think with a bit of TLC I can get them back :)

I have to admit, I had to click on the thread due to the name of the bird. But I do like the shot and the new edit is nice.

Haha! Whatever makes ya click ;) Thanks!
