The 1st is a pretty modest edit, the 2nd is a little more heavily worked over. Just depends on your particular taste. Some folks like a heavy edit, others like a more natural look and feel. I just go with whatever works!

The first one doesn't do anything for me. I have a feeling it's something to do with the dog and his interaction with the owner. It means something like he's about to jump or... It's a uniquely HIM kind or look that only someone who knows him will understand? Maybe?
I like the second shot, but the lens flare looks unreal to me. I am not big on the washed out look of it, but I guess it works ok.

I like the first, not so much the second. Did you add the sunflare in pp? I would undo that.
