Why has Canon Powershot SX720 price Tripled?!

Canon introduced the Powershot SX720 about 9 years ago for around $350.
Shortly after, I bought a refurb SX720 from Canon site for $150.

Just checked prices and was shocked to see the SX720 selling from $830 to over $1,000.

What is going on with Canon prices?

Discontinued this Spring. Canon Canada still lists them for $499 but no clue about stock.

$499 in Canada which would make it $363.97USD. Like above, seems like stock is the issue.
It's likely not Canon raising the price. It's likely the demand is high and retailers are taking advantage of it.

Yup. Though discontinued a few months ago, Canon likely stopped production of this model some time earlier and just ran down inventory. The OP might get lucky and find dealer stock or NOS elsewhere at whatever sellers care to charge.

Canon quit producing pocket sized super zoom cameras a few months ago causing bidding wars on those cameras. I've seen lesser 20X and 25X models selling for multiples of their value from a year ago. It has gotten crazy. I asked AI why people are willing to pay so much for older Canon pocket super zooms and it said:
