But Don...he is a male finch, more redder and vividly red than the house finch actually described as a sparrow dipped in raspberry sauce or something like that. Never purple...maybe some of them are purple but never seen one yet...

Even their off-season plumage is not what I would call "purple". Reddish is more like it IMO.

Common names are far too confusing.....I call this a House Finch{Haemorhous mexicanus}, but that is the trouble with 'common'. We have one that has been staying here locally for years with one eye, I haven't seen him for quite sometime and will sort of miss him if he has 'left us'.

Nice bokeh......the branch burled in the background is pretty cool.

Scott (gotta look for him now) B

Great shot. I love the bokeh in this one a lot. Great detail and I actually really like the dead space on the left and how you composed it so that he is looking into that dead space.

Thanks for the comments everyone !

Apparantly the forked tail confirms him as a purple finch :)

Cheers, Don

Someone tickled him.

A lot.

Awww I want one, beautiful colours and yep. not purple for sure. Nothing that colour here in our finches, its gorgeous Don and a fine shot as well of course. Nice perch and background.

All the best Don, love this one.

Danny.
