why no "dislike" button

I was just wondering why they don't offer this as an option, as I see a lot of posts that are just completely off the wall, unrelated, bad advice, or just plain stupid. Does anyone else think this would be useful, or is it just me?

Dislike buttons just cause lots of drama and headaches for the mod team so we don't have them

As for posts that are way off consider that simply marking them as dislike isn't really informing anyone save the person that made the post and even then you've not really said why. The best way is to politely counter the point, citing reasons and explanations for why their viewpoint is wrong. Most times its not because people have a spiteful or deliberate desire spread miss-information, but simply a reflection of the fact that their own level of understanding is not complete.

You are probably right, but especially in some of the critique sections where some people are just excessively rude and unhelpful, it might not kill the op's self esteem seeing that other seasoned members don't like the post either. Again, this is only good if the op is open minded to begin with and is taking the other criticism well. Maybe even incorporating something that would automatically report the response to a mod if a certain number of dislikes were received would work. Then again, this too would definitely increase the work required by the mods. I don't know, I just think that if you can "like" something, you should also be able to "dislike" something.

There is no dislike button for the same reason there isn't one on Facebook. Just get over it.

I'd dislike this thread if you actually had your way and a button was put in place.

Thanks for your participation Tyler, that is a perfect example of where one would be appropriate. Even you can see the usefulness.

I'm not saying that it is necessary and I can't live without it, I too can just ignore/ skip threads that I think are stupid or exercise my right to speak my mind about them. I am just saying that it could be a useful tool in certain instances, and like I said if a certain post or a certain member had accumulated enough of them, it could alert the moderators. I'm sure that it won't be put in place because it would be way to easy to abuse, but it was just a thought. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and they can "like" or "dislike" anything as they please, you don't have to agree with me.

And as far as someone being a coward, is it really any different than what some people post on here- just being plain *ssholes. It is a lot easier to get big and tough with the things they say online through an anonymous forum than to say some of these things to people's faces.
