Why spend money when you can make it at home??

Good Job! Conversely, I wanted a good walk around camera bag that would hold a body with lens attached, a 70-300 telephoto zoom and a third compartment for the sb-600 flash, and a side pocket to hold a reflector, gray card and manuals. I have experience with an industrial sewing machine so I made a leather bag out of two pair of motorcycle chaps and a leather trench coat. After three weeks of designing, drawing, cutting, padding and construction it came out very nicely. but I could have sold the leather garments on consignment for about $200. and I've seen good leather bags for about the same price without all the work. But it was fun!. Tom Beard

My better half was working on making home made ring lights. Was turning out pretty good for what he has now, though definitely the real thing would look far better, but just to mess around with. its fun, I will see if I can get him to post a picture

Well, it works and it didn't cost you anything - so, awesome!

I've made lots of DIY things to hold me over till I got the 'real thing', and some I still use instead of the 'real' one.

Don't take this the wrong way, but... I always thought you were a guy, I don't know why (I guess I've never seen a picture of you). Your hands look very feminine, lol. It was kind of a shock to me...

Ridiculous.
A Tupperware bowl with a hole cut in it with a flash stuck in the hole, and tin foil flapping around all over the place.
Are those sippy straws being used to reinforce the concoction?
Put your hands up and step away from the camera.

Why not BUY the proper equipment??????????

Well lets see, by the broken shades in the background, I obviously don't have money flowing right now. I am doing what I can until I can afford the "proper equipment". It works, it was cheap, and it's not like I am going on a high paying gig to shoot with it, although if I did that would be my choice.

I have a home made softbox that goes on my SB-600 made from foam and tracing paper...care to bash that to?

I'm just saying.

Thanks to all others who offered constructive comments

Lol, it's ok. I don't put my self in front of the lens so you don't really know who I am. But I am definitely a female. :)

This is utterly awesome, and very inventive. The reality is that not many people have extra money floating around these days, so DIY is a great solution. Kudos!

Those are great pictures. DIY is fun, so far I've only made a lightbox but these are good ideas. I don't think I'd take them to a legit photoshoot though..:meh:

Love the beauty dish idea and yes, I am so stealing it till I can afford the real thing. MacGyver would be proud. ;)

I think this is the most creative thing I have seen. Welldone for thinking of such a thing =]

I tried making a simple lightbox out of a white cloth and a few wire clothes hangers...but to no avail on that one. Lol.

I won't be taking them to any photo shoots, only friends. :)

That's wonderful!! It def gets the job done. I looove reading about innovative diy ideas, and once my husband and I move and get settled I'll be diving into some projects of my own!

I think that you are very creative and inventive. And, to those igmo's that are making fun of you, all of the "fancy, store-bought, expensive" equipment that they use had their beginnings just like your tupperware beauty dish. Heck, the first "cameras" (Camera Obscura) were simply a small hole in the wall of a room that projected light onto a wall on the opposite side of the room! You can't get anymore redneck than that! LOL.

Haha exactly. Gotta start somewhere right? :D

Nicely done! I love the whole DIY culture, and this is terrific solutions on a budget stuff.

Lightbox???? Clothes hangers??? How about:
1- a large styrofoam ice chest, the $3.29 kind from Wally Mart or K-Marche
2- a steak knife to cut out a mounting hole for a flash head
3- a sheet of tracing paper from Office Depot
4- a handful of push pins
5- six pieces of tape
6- five minutes of time to assemble it
