I'm looking to get a wide angle lens for my father on his birthday. Looking to spend maybe $500 or so? Some others have suggested the Tokina 12-24mm. Looking at the prices (ebay), it's right under $500 shipped.

My father already has a zoom lens (forget what kind), whatever came with the camera, and a macro lens. I think this wide angle would compliment it very well. He usually likes to take pictures of landscape. He likes to travel and I'm guessing would use this wide angle lens a lot.

Do any of you guys have any suggestions? I'm thinking 12mm is good, and I think 10mm would be overkill. Also, I would like to ask a couple of things, along with your suggestions.

1) Please post a sample picture from the lens that is being suggested (if you can).

2) Please post a good site to get the said lens from.

Thank you all in advance for any input.

theres no such thimg as overkill with wide zooms, the sigma may be 10mm at the wide end, but it still goes to 12mm, the tokina is 12mm at the wide end, but will never reach 10mm.

I have the Tokina; it is incredibly sharp, a great lens, built strong.

The sigma may be wider but the reviewer don't think it is sharp.
