I upgraded to Windows 10 and a new monitor in January which I calibrated with Spyder 4 Pro. The monitor seems too bright. I saved the calibration file and can't find it. Where is this located in Windows 10? Does Windows 10 override my setting when I turn the monitor off?

I can't remember which directory the profiles are buried in, but no, Datacolor does not override your original profile nor does Windows override a Datacolor profile. Open the "Profile Chooser" in the Datacolour menu ( should be located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Datacolor\ProfileChooser ) if you don't have an actual menu entry for it, and select whichever profile you want. The original profile will have a name likely associated to the brand of your Computer or such.

Left click windows emblem, bottom left > Settings>System>Display (if it isn't already selected)>go to color profile on right>click down arrow to show your profiles>select the profile you want windows to use.

Thanks Tirediron & Bill. I had to get to the profile via the control panel. In the advanced settings had to add to the monitor settings. I did a factory reset and was able to add the Profile back. Will recalibrate today. I think last time I shot for 120 cd brightness and then saw a tut saying to shoot for 97 cd brightness.

I have a Spyder 4 Pro and have some issues with consistency. Try running a full calibration 2-3 times to see if you get the same results. You may also want to check the lighting conditions in the room to ensure they aren't changing and that the software is recommending the appropriate target brightness. I work in a fairly controlled environment with no direct light and 1 60W equiv lamp in the corner; working in a what their software considers "Moderately Low" light, it set a target brightness of 120 cd/m^2. It still feels a bit bright for my liking, but seems appropriate for editing.

My editing room is very dark with metal room darkening blinds and no lights on. There is some light leaking thru the blinds, but not much and it isn't pitch dark. I did the calibration 3x. The first 2 times the sypder was set on the left side of the monitor and got a target of 200. The third time I set the spyder on the right side, closer to the monitor and got a target of 180. I'm using v3 calibration and it appears to be good and not too bright.

I didn't know how to answer the Spyder questions on gamma or backlight so I used "unknown" for each. Problem maybe?

When I calibrated back in January it was too bright and in the display screen the color option was the name of the monitor and not my named file.

When I turned off the computer and restarted today my newest calibration was not listed in the display color mgmt. I did add the profile to the list and realized I needed to "check mark" to keep the settings.

I had Windows 7 Pro for many years. Windows 10 seems to be different with the profiles.

I recently went over a year without recalibrating, which had both positive and negative consequences. I never felt like taking the time every month when the reminder popped up - I rarely saw any noticeable difference afterwards, and it randomly seemed to miscalibrate every so often, which is why I suggested running it a few times to see if you get anything different. I found 2 major things that were off when I finally recalibrated - the contrast and saturation were much higher after recalibrating, and apparently I hadn't noticed that my display had been set to "automatically adjust brightness" after a system update, resulting in a much darker image.

This meant that for a long time my display lacked contrast and saturation and was too dark, so I was really boosting the contrast and vibrance when editing, as well as brightening my images quite a bit. Interestingly, I actually liked how my images were turning out, and with few exceptions, looked great on other devices such as iPhones or iPads. Of course now everything on this display seems too bright since I got used to it automatically dimming, but it has actually changed how I edit.
