Windows Laptop??

I've just handed back my £899 Samsung Chronos 7 as even basic LR4 commands were hanging with no other application open. My budget could stretch to MacBook Pro 15" but it's a big jump in £.

Any recommendations for a matte screen windows laptop around the £1k mark that does have the processing power to handle LR4 and PS open at same time?

There aren't many online reviews of laptops suitability for photographers!!! Thanks in advance.

Don't know what the prices are in the UK but here, looking on Newegg, I can't find anything I would trust for that low price. Nothing portable anyway. Something is always missing. HDD capacity or speed or not 64bit...

Do you want to use the GPU to help with PS ?

So far I always get back to my big desktop for editing.

Laptops are not good choices for photo editing work. That would probably explain why you didn't find much in the way of reviews. If you are set on using a laptop you should consider also buying a decent IPS monitor to do you photo editing on.

Thanks guys.....your views help validate that there is just nothing at that price range (and my budget). I do generally process on my desktop which copes well it was more for portable editing in those situations when you need to turn something around very quickly.

I'm leaning towards getting a decent 2nd hand MacBook (2nd hand being a risk!) well within my range as it seems silly to spend that amount of money that doesn't really do the same job as a desktop nor will be used that often.

fYi, I have a ToshibaQosmio Qosmo, i7, 16gb mem, 18.4" screen that I use for photo processing when traveling. LR4 Works spectacularly well. I can watch a movie while having it process a big batch photos. I got it so I could set up in the forest, take some photos, process, and compare with the original forest. I love it. But, it weighs a ton... Heck the power supply weighs as much as many laptops. My girlfriend and I frequently watch movies if we are in a motel, sometimes in a tent... Freaks folks out, has an incredible sound system. It also cost around $2k. But for those of you that can afford it, I highly recommend it. JD
